  1. The activity or reactivity series determines whether or not a metal will replace another one in a replacement reaction.

  2. The activity (or reactivity) series determines whether or not a metal will replace another one in a replacement reaction. The reactivity series or activity series is an empirical series of metals, in order of "reactivity" from highest to lowest. It is used to summarize information about the reactions of metals with acids and water, single replacement reactions and the extraction of metals from their ores.

  3. There is one things that determines whether or not a metal will replace another one in a replacement reaction. And that is an activity series. This series is used to summarize information about the reactions of metals with acids and water.

  4. To know which metal is the more reactive element, you need an activity series.The Activity Series of the metals is an invaluable aid to predicting the products of replacement reactions. It also can be used as an aid in predicting products of some other reactions.

  5. it depends on the relative reactivities of the two metals. If the metal is a reactive metal then it will replace any metal listed below it in the activity series of metals.

  6. The one term that determines whether one metal will replace another metal from a compound in a single replacement reaction is by an activity series. An activity series is just simply a list of metals or substances ranked in order of relative reactivity. It is also considered an useful tool towards predicting the products of metal displacement reactions even if a reactive metal will replace any metal listed below it in an activity series. However: what is reactivity? Reactivity provides ability to react with another substance. Single replacement reactions are used to determine a metal's position on the list.

  7. basically the activity or reactivity series determines whether or not a metal will replace another one in a replacement reaction.

  8. The activity series determines whether one metal will reaplace another. In order to be sure that the replacement can occur, you must check the activity series chart.
    Ex. Na + HOH--> H + NaOH
    Sodium is higher up on the activity series chart than hydrogen so this replacement can occur.

  9. In order to determines whether or not a metal will replace another one in a replacement reaction you will have to conduct an activity series. An activity series is a list of metals or substances ranked in order of relative reactivity.

  10. Whether one metal will displace another metal froma compound depends upon the relative reactivities of the two metals. The activity series of metals chart lists the metals in order of decreasing reactivity. A reactive metal will replace any metal listed below it in the activity series.

  11. the activity series helps determine this. in single replacement reaction, the stronger metal can replace the weaker metal in a molecule because it has the stregth to take its place and stay there. an example of this would be: Zn(zinc) + 2HCL(hydrogen chloride)= ZnCl2(zinc chloride) + H(hydrogen). as you can tell in this equation, zinc was a stronger metal than hydrogen so it takes over.

  12. The activeity series or reactivity and activity of the other metal will determine the metal that gets replaced in a single replacement reaction.

  13. In Layman's terms: the determinant for which metal will replace another is its placement within the reactivity series; the strongest metal in the single-replacement reaction will replace the other metal to form a compound.

  14. Relating to the homework, to determine this you would have to first figure out the relative reactivity of both metals. The activity series of metal lists metals in order of decreasing reactivity. Am metal will replace any metal found below that metal in the series.

  16. In a single replacement reaction atoms of one element replace the atoms of a second element in a compound. Whether one metal will replace another metal from a compound can be determined by the relative reactivities of the two metals. To help determine this, an activity series of metals arranges metals in order of decreasing reactivity.
